Among a pair of gears that mesh, the gear that transmits the rotational motion of a motor or other device through the drive shaft is called the driving gear.
A single-stage gear mechanism that meshes a pair of gears becomes a reduction device when the number of teeth on the driving gear is less than the number of teeth on the driven gear, and becomes an increaser device when the number of teeth on the driving gear is greater than the number of teeth on the driven gear.
For example, if the number of teeth on the driving gear (z1) is 30, the speed (n1) is 400 rpm, and the number of teeth on the driven gear (z2) is 60, then the speed transmission ratio of this single-stage gear mechanism is 2, and the speed of the driven gear (n2) is 200 rpm.

= Number of teeth on driven gear (z2) / Number of teeth on driving gear (z1)
= Number of revolutions of driving gear (n1) / Number of revolutions of driven gear (n2)
